At Sinus Center, we believe that every patient is unique and requires personalized care to address their sinus issues.
1. What is balloon sinus dilation (balloon sinuplasty)?
Balloon sinus dilation is a minimally invasive procedure for chronic or recurring sinusitis when medications haven't given enough relief. Dr. Hudson guides a small balloon through the nose and gently widens blocked sinus openings so they can drain better. It doesn't involve cutting bone or tissue, and no nasal packing is needed.
2. Is balloon sinus dilation done in the office? Will I be put to sleep?
Yes. We do it right here in our office, not in a hospital. It doesn't need general anesthesia; we numb the area with local anesthesia so you stay comfortable. We'll go over what to expect on the day of your procedure at your consultation.
3. What is recovery like?
Because these procedures are minimally invasive and done in the office, many patients get back to their normal routine fairly quickly. Recovery is different for everyone, so Dr. Hudson or Theresa Birchfield, PA-C will give you specific aftercare instructions and let you know what to expect in your case.
4. What are VivAer and RhinAer?
Both are in-office treatments that need no incisions and use gentle, controlled radiofrequency energy. VivAer reshapes the nasal valve to help with nasal blockage and stuffiness, without changing how your nose looks. RhinAer treats chronic rhinitis, such as a constantly runny nose or watery post-nasal drip. At your visit, we'll help you figure out whether either one fits your symptoms.
5. Why might I need a CT scan, and where is it done?
A CT scan gives a detailed picture of your sinuses and helps us find the cause of ongoing symptoms and plan the right treatment. Our office has Northern Nevada's first in-office radiology suite, so in many cases we can do your scan during your visit, without sending you to a separate imaging center.
6. Do you accept my insurance?
We accept most major insurance plans. Coverage varies from plan to plan, so please call us at 775-852-3624 to check your specific plan before your visit.
7. Do I need a referral?
Some insurance plans, especially HMO plans, require a referral from your primary care provider before you see a specialist. Please check with your insurance company or call our office, and we'll help you sort out what you need.
8. What should I bring to my first visit?
Please bring a photo ID, your insurance card, a list of your current medications (including nasal sprays), and any referral your plan requires. If you've had sinus CT scans or seen another ENT before, bring those records or images if you can. Please come a few minutes early to check in.
9. What are your office hours?
We're open Monday through Friday, 8–12 and 1–5 PM. We're located at 10735 Double R Blvd, Reno, NV 89521.
10. How do I book an appointment?
Call our main line at 775-852-3624, or use the appointment request form on our Contact page. Requested dates are tentative, and our staff will reach out to confirm a time. Please don't include detailed medical information in the online form; we'll go over your health history when we talk with you.
